Hang Soon Timber is a working timber yard in Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu — on the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia, not Borneo. The company was incorporated in June 2024 under SSM registration 202403140965, taking over from a predecessor business. We supply hardware stores, contractors and traditional builders across Peninsular Malaysia.

What the yard carries

Species we carry: Chengal, Balau, Meranti, Damar Hitam, Kekatung, Nyatoh, Resak, Kempas, Merbau, Jelutong, Sepetir and Mengkulang. Hardwoods are kiln-treated where required.

How timber is measured and priced

We price and sell by the ton. In the Malaysian timber trade a ton is a unit of volume, not weight — it is 50 cubic feet, which is about 1.416 cubic metres. The arithmetic is fixed, and you can check the tonnage on any sawn-timber quote we send against it:

ton = (Σ pieces × length in ft) × thickness in inches × width in inches ÷ 7200

So 50 pieces of 2″ × 4″ at 12 ft is 600 running feet, and 600 × 2 × 4 ÷ 7200 = 0.6667 ton — that is 33.3 cubic feet, or 0.944 m³. Any section converts the same way, which is why a per-ton price is comparable across sizes and a per-piece price is not. If you have been quoted per piece, multiply the piece price by 7200 and divide by thickness × width × length to get back to a per-ton figure. It is the cleanest way to compare quotes from two yards on the same basis.

Non-standard sizes, treatment and delivery

Non-standard sections and lengths are sourced to your spec. Kiln treatment is available on request.

Delivery is by lorry, direct to site across Peninsular Malaysia, with forklift offload on request. Freight is always quoted separately from the timber price, so you see both numbers.

Hours, and where we are

The yard runs 0830 to 1730, Saturday through Thursday. We are closed on Friday — the rest day in Terengganu. Saturday and Sunday are ordinary working days here.
